Eating disorder treatment for athletes

Commit to your sport, not your eating disorder

In sports, the line between dedication and compulsions can easily get blurred. The pressures of being an athlete can take their toll, spiraling into unhealthy coping behaviors that ultimately damage your body and performance. With treatment, you can get back on track and become stronger than ever.

Comprehensive care

Athletes are two to three times more likely than the average person to develop an eating disorder. Athletes with an eating disorder are more prone to injury and at greater risk for serious medical complications such as anxiety, muscle cramps, hypothermia, stress fractures, dental problems, gastric rupture, electrolyte imbalances, premature osteoporosis, heart failure, and more but that doesn’t have to be your story.

Our team consists of many experienced athletes who understand the unique challenges, requirements, and high demands of sports. We offer a complete spectrum of care, from intensive 24-hour care to virtual services, to help you achieve long-term recovery.

FAQs about eating disorders and athletes

Having questions is natural, we’re here to help you find answers and feel confident in your ability to recover.
How can athletes in treatment balance their training nutrition needs with their recovery from an eating disorder?

Each of our clients has a comprehensive program and dietary guidelines to best accommodate their physical and recovery needs.

How can I balance my training schedule with treatment?

Depending on the level of care you need, there are ways to continue your schedule in tandem with treatment, such as our day treatment programs or virtual services. That being said, putting your mental and physical health first through treatment will give you the best chance of long-term recovery where you can truly thrive in your sport.

How do I talk to my coach, teammates, or family about my eating disorder and treatment?

“Hey, I’m struggling with an eating disorder” can feel like a challenging thing to say out loud for the first time, but know this: eating disorders are harder to fight in isolation. By including your support system, whether that be family, friends, teammates, or coaches, in your treatment, you can provide opportunities for you and those you care about to learn techniques and tools together to help you succeed in and out of treatment.

It can be a hard conversation to get started, but we’re here to help and include the people most important to you in your recovery process.
