WHAT TO EXPECT

Advantages of Day Treatment for adolescents

Our day treatment programs offer a structured schedule that helps teens focus on recovery while continuing to live at home. With consistent therapeutic support, your child can build the skills and confidence needed to move toward lasting recovery and eventually ease back into daily routines.

1:1 and community learning

Individual and group therapy sessions, dietary sessions, and psychiatric sessions (psychiatric sessions provided in PHP only).

Nourishment and self-care

Your child will take part in nutrition programming that supports both physical healing and a healthier relationship with food.

Therapy based training

Skills development through evidence-based treatments such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Holistic healing

Our trauma-integrated treatment helps to address co-occurring PTSD in eating disorders.

Family Involvement

As a parent or caregiver, you play a vital role in your child’s recovery.  Our day treatment program includes dedicated family therapy—through individual family  sessions and multi-family groups—so you can better understand your child’s experience and how to support their healing journey.

Comprehensive discharge planning

As your child prepares to step down from our care, we’ll work closely with you and the outpatient team to create a clear plan that supports their long-term recovery at home and beyond.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT ADOLESCENT CARE

Is eating disorder day treatment right for my child?

Day treatment may be a good fit for adolescents who do not need 24-hour care but still benefit from intensive, structured support during the day. Your child will return home each evening while spending the day in therapeutic programming with our team of compassionate eating disorder experts.

Teens and pre-teens

Teens and pre-teens have different needs than adults. That’s why our day treatment programs are designed specifically for this age group - focusing on emotional development, reducing eating disorder behaviors, and supporting a return to age-appropriate growth. Our team also partners closely with caregivers to ensure the whole family is supported throughout the recovery journey.

All genders and all background

We provide gender-affirming, culturally aware, and trauma-informed care so that everyone feels welcome and safe and can focus on healing.

All eating disorder diagnoses

We treat all eating disorders at each of our levels of care. If your child is medically stable, but having a difficult time, Day Support may be a good option.

TREATMENT THAT WORKS

Adolescent eating disorder programs —  rooted in research

When it comes to your child’s recovery, you want care that’s not only compassionate—but proven to work. Our programs are grounded in years of experience and built on evidence-based practices that support long-term recovery.
We continually track outcomes to ensure our care is making a meaningful difference in the lives of the teens and families we serve. Our data reflects what parents see firsthand: real progress, real hope.

FAQs about adolescent eating disorder day treatment

We’re here to answer your questions so you can feel assured about taking the next steps in your loved ones recovery.
How long are day treatment programs for adolescents?

The length of your program is based on several factors, including your specific recovery needs, the severity of the eating disorder, your personalized treatment progress, and the program’s structure at the location you attend.

For some individuals, treatment might be shorter in duration, while others could extend to several months, depending on your progress and treatment goals.

What’s the difference between PHP and IOP for teens?

IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) and PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) are both structured mental health treatment programs that offer more intensive care than regular outpatient therapy but differ in intensity and time commitment.

IOP typically involves 3-5 days of programming for around 3-4 hours per day while working with your outpatient providers. This allows clients to maintain their daily routines such as work or school. It focuses on providing support and strategies for managing symptoms while clients live at home.

PHP is more intensive, running from 5-6 days per week for 6 or more hours per day. It provides a higher level of care, but clients return home at the end of the day. PHP is designed for individuals who need significant support but do not require 24-hour supervision.

For Monte Nido programs, the number of days and times may differ slightly by location. For more information reach out to admissions here.

What do day treatment programs for adolescents include?

Our adolescent day (PHP and IOP) programs re ideal for teens who are medically stable but who require the structure and support of day treatment. Parents will take on a more active role at this level of care. Family-Based Informed Treatment, used within our adolescent programming, is designed to give parents of adolescent clients a leading role in helping their child reduce disordered eating behaviors, restore weight, and resume proper adolescent development. Our team will support the whole family through family programming, therapy, and resources so you will have the tools to support and sustain your child’s recovery during and after treatment.
