Nestled in the foothills of Malibu on 2 acres of pine, oak, sycamore, and fruit trees, Monte Nido lives up to its name, "Mountain Nest". Surrounded by a state park with hiking trails that lead to the beach, Monte Nido is a secluded, gated estate equipped with a gym, Jacuzzi and a private bath and deck in each bedroom. Our home like atmosphere provides comfort in a unique setting where the challenges necessary for recovery take place. The Monte Nido program places a high priority on individualized plans and individual therapy for anorexia treatment, bulimia treatment, binge eating disorder, exercise addiction and chemical dependency treatment, as provided by Carolyn Costin, LMFT and Community Counseling.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Douglas Bunnell, FAED, CEDS, has joined our team and will become Clinical Director of our East Coast Programs.

Currently the Vice President of the Renfrew Center Foundation and Director of Outpatient Clinical Services, Dr. Bunnell has a 30 year history in the eating disorder field. * He will transition to the Monte Nido team on March 1, 2013.

Dr. Bunnell will join our new medical director, Dr. Ken Willis, former founder and medical director of University Medical Center at Princeton Eating Disorder’s Program, in heading up our east coast day treatment program (soon followed by our residential facility about an hour away).  Dr. Willis brings 25 years of eating disorder experience to the team.

Dr. Bunnell and Dr. Willis, two distinguished, prominent east coast eating disorder clinicians, will help us bring Monte Nido’s philosophy and treatment protocols to those who would otherwise have to travel across the country to get them. 

* In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Bunnell has served on numerous professional and advocacy related organizations including; the Eating Disorders Coalition, the National Eating Disorders Association, as a past board chair and currently as the co-clinical advisor to the NEDA Navigator program which trains volunteers to provide support and coaching to patients and families with eating disorders, the Academy of Eating Disorders, where he serves as co chair of the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Special Interest Group and is a member of the credentialing task force that developed standards for eating disorder residential treatment centers.
