In Memory of Christine Hartline, Founder of edreferral.com
The memorial service for Christine Hartline, who lost her battle with cancer on March 23, was held on Sunday, April 29th and it was a beautiful celebration of Christine's life and work.
I knew Christine Hartline since she was 15 years old and battling anorexia nervosa. I helped her through her illness to full recovery. Christine's recovery from an eating disorder lead her to eventually become a renown eating disorder advocate through the creation of edreferral.com.
She was always a warrior for a good cause. More than a decade after her own recovery Christine helped open Monte Nido. A dream we both shared during her own treatment. Christine was always looking for ways to improve access to treatment and after meeting and falling in love with her husband Kevin Grold, together they went on to create Edreferral. In the last few days of her life, Christine shared with me that she was afraid she hadn't done enough. I assured her that her contribution to the eating disorder field was of great significance and importance and would carry on, continuing to help people long after she was gone. She also wanted me to thank IAEDP for being early supporters of Edreferral and giving her the confidence to carry out her mission.
As a board member of IAEDP, I was able to pass on Christine's sentiment at the recent IAEDP conference. In response, the IAEDP board voted to make Christine an honorary fellow of IAEDP and establish an annual Christine Hartline Conference Scholarship. Each year the board will select someone who will be able to attend the conference in her name. To make a donation in Christine's honor, please click here: iaedp Christine Hartline Scholarship
Christine touched the lives of many and countless requests are coming in asking what can be done to support her legacy.
In honor of Christine who gave so much to so many, particularly in the field of eating disorders, through her commitment of time, energy, knowledge and passion, we have created the Christine Hartline FUND FOR ED Treatment.
The fund was the idea of many of Christine's colleagues including Sharon Peterson, Johanna Kandel, Gail Schoenbach, Lisa Kantor, and Kathleen MacDonald. We are thankful to Kevin, Christine's husband, for allowing F.R.E.E.D. to offer this opportunity for people to remember Christine.
The fund is set up thru the F.R.E.E.D. Foundation (For Recovery & Elimination of Eating Disorders), a 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to raising funding for people to receive treatment. All donations are tax deductible and 100% of monies go directly to an individual's treatment.
Donations can be made via: Freedfoundation -- or by mail: P.O. Box 4113, Warren, NJ 07059 --please indicate in the memo section of your check that your donation is for Christine's fund.
F.R.E.E.D. will let Christine's husband Kevin know how the money raised was used, as well as send you a receipt and acknowledgement for your donation.
